Living with these two guys has been interesting, to say the least. Hunter and Adam clean up after themselves pretty well, and we always have plenty of drugs and alcohol to keep things lively around here. But something about how these two operate so well together strikes me as odd; I know they’re not truly brothers, but they are family. Through and through. I wonder how long they’ve really lived on their own, but I never press them for information. We all have our fucked up family lives; I’m no stranger to that. We spend our mornings in classes, and in the afternoons, we pull jobs and do anything we can to make a little money. Enough for food and electricity, that’s the bare minimum, and we’re all happy with that. This is our place, we make the rules, and those rules are simple. Everyone contributes, and everyone shares. Working like a well-oiled machine the last few months has got us a bit ahead; after putting cash in the bills and food envelopes, there’s been money leftover every week. I pull Adam aside one day and tell him that I have the perfect plan to get Hunter a Christmas gift, but I need to keep a little bit off the next job in order to do that. Adam agrees to help me out, and as much as I hate to skim money or lie to Hunter, it’s for a good cause. Christmas was a few weeks away, and we’d have nearly two weeks off from school to be teenagers and enjoy the break. Instead of busting our asses to take care of ourselves all the time. Nobody really knows what we go through; we don’t tell anyone our business, and when they ask, we say we have jobs. That is simple enough of an explanation. It’s finally the weekend but also a reason to celebrate because I’m turning eighteen next week. Hunter and Adam have a fun night planned for me, and even though I don’t know the details, I know there’s no one I’d rather spend my birthday weekend with. We drive to the outskirts of town and park the car, and I can’t help but wonder why we’ve stopped in the middle of nowhere. “What’re we doing here, boys? This is getting a little creepy!” I say, laughing with Hunter’s arm around me in the backseat. Poor Adam is our taxi driver most of the time since we always snuggle up in the backseat. Unless we go to a party, I always drive home and let the boys drink. “So, of all the shit we’ve gotten into, there are only a few things we haven’t tried.” Hunter says, smirking at me. My mind wanders over all the shit we have tried, and now I’m nervous. “You’re not suggesting a threesome, are you? Because I don’t like to share.” I laugh, winking at Adam. Hunter shakes his head, laughing along with me. “No, Lo, I got us some ecstasy!” Hunter exclaims, pulling the baggie out and showing off his prize.
